Material of Exercise Mat:

It becomes more important for you to be informed about the material with which your exercise mat is built of! Exercising on a hard floor surface can actually do you more harm than it can good. Since besides the pressure projected by the machine, the weight of the body also acts on the mat thus soft and thin mats have higher chances of tearing apart. A thickness of ¾ inch and interlocking units of about two square units should be preferred.

Considerations during Purchase:

During shopping of an exercise mat, only look of the mat should not be the sole consideration. Factors such as size, features, value for money etc. should be kept in mind. The exercise mats should be firm because if it is too soft your balance will not be supported, nor will you have proper alignment.

When you buy a pilates mat you should consider the thickness. size. Yoga mats are thinner and do not serve the same purpose as a pilates mat. Roll up exercise mats are mostly favored because of their affordability. These can be rolled up and stored almost anywhere. Since they are very lightweight it makes them very easy to carry. Keep in mind when you buy a roll up mat you want it to have strings to secure it or the mat will not stay in the rolled up position.
